Feel the rush of wind as a golden eagle sweeps low overhead, close enough to glimpse the keen intelligence in its amber eyes. At the Locarno Falconry, the ancient bond between humans and birds of prey comes vividly to life in a setting that places animal welfare at its heart. Eagles, falcons, owls, vultures, storks and ibis take to the sky in thrilling flight demonstrations that captivate visitors of all ages -- equal parts spectacle, education and poetry.

The show

As magnificent birds spiral and glide above the arena, the falconer narrates the millennia-old story of this noble art. He explains the vital role birds of prey play in maintaining the equilibrium of our ecosystems, describes each species' unique characteristics and habitats, and demonstrates the deep trust between handler and bird.

Practised professionally and respectfully, falconry offers a rare opportunity to observe these predators up close while honouring their natural flight behaviour -- no artificial tricks, just instinct and grace. A Spanish Riding School-style equestrian demonstration highlights the historical connection between the art of falconry and the equestrian world, recalling the important role these traditions played throughout human history.

Accompanied by period music and traditional costumes, the flight display becomes a true journey through time -- a surprising, poetic experience that stirs the imagination long after the last raptor has landed. The show lasts approximately one hour, with performances at 11 AM and 3 PM. Covered bleachers ensure the spectacle goes on even on rainy days.

Leisure for families

Before or after the show, take time to stroll the park and observe the birds in their spacious aviaries. Children will love feeding the Koi carp with a baby bottle, and the fairy-tale show "The Golden Feather" is a delight for all ages. A picnic area and pizzeria round out a memorable family day out.
